Why can't I just use ChatGPT to generate my schedule?
But in the mid-2020s, due to the prevalence of generative AI, most people simply equate the term "AI" with "generative AI". Generative AI (GenAI or GAI) includes major chatbots like:
- ChatGPT
- Copilot
- Gemini
- Claude
- Grok
- DeepSeek
- Meta AI
The issue with these generative pre-trained transformers (GPT) is that they are prone to generating falsehoods called "hallucinations". While helpful in the creative arts, these hallucinations can be pragmatically frustrating -- such as when you show up at the address of a restaurant that has never existed, etc.
In our testing, ChatGPT tended to hallucinate, and failed to create compliant SLP schedules. It tended to make a single attempt to create a schedule, and conducted no automatic problem-solving when it encountered an issue. But further, even when schedules it made satisfied all constraints, they were not optimized per the SLP's preferences -- often forgetting things like leaving time for therapist lunches or reworking the schedule to create larger blocks of unallocated time (for billing, paperwork, etc.).
While it's true that SLP Scheduler "generates" schedules for you, SLP Scheduler is not considered "generative" in the same was as the above chatbots, and as such does not utilize LLM or GPT.
We're happy to report that SLP Scheduler does not (and cannot) hallucinate to create your complaint schedule. 😁 SLP Scheduler cannot "forget" about students, modify IEP minutes, drop or create new constraints. Perhaps someday GPT will be able to reliably generate fully compliant schedules for SLPs, but that day has not yet come.
For now (and for the foreseeable future), we believe that SLP Scheduler's proprietary AI algorithms are the perfect match for the needs of SLPs everywhere.
